Last evening I was making some butter chicken; my daughter’s favorite food and yes I am really good at making it thanks to ‘butter’.
The recipe itself turned out great as usual (taking a bow). However what was interesting was my experience using the butter. Incidentally I was across the border a few weeks ago and did some grocery shopping at Ogdensberg Walmart and I shopped for quite a few slabs of Great Value brand butter. The damn thing was $1.99 a box and pounced on it like a hungry bear. Can’t remember how many slabs I snagged but it felt like I had hit a jackpot considering the Canadian prices!
Long story short, I was using this butter stick for the first time today and as soon as I took it out of the box; I was greeted by a very interesting sight - 1tbsp markings on the slab cover for user to be able to measure exactly without thinking. How cool!
This is the kind of user experience that gives me goose bumps….simple things that astonish you for their usefulness and thoughtfulness. I believe that a designer should strive towards this goal and great designs simply follow.
A butterly experience indeed!

This was a pretty fun exercise. Apple just recently announced that iCloud is now open for developer access. The homepage that Apple has created for the same simply rocks. (iCloud Homepage)
